Frogs and Toads world
Frogs can be found on every country. Members of the frog family are bullfrog, common frog, green frog, leopard frog, marsh frog, pickerel frog, and wood frog. Frogs contains more than 400 species. Frogs are cold-blooded vertebrate animals. Frogs have two bulging eyes. They also have strong, long, webbed feet that are used for leaping and swimming.
Frogs can hear using big round ears on the sides of their head. Some frogs have tongues that are long and sticky that can be used to catch bugs. Most frogs have small cone teeth around the upper edge of the jaw. They don’t have anything to be called teeth on their lower jaw. Frogs have very special skin. It not only covers their bodies and they drink and breathe through it.
Frogs get oxygen through their skin. They need to take care of their skin. Sometimes you’ll find frogs that are slimy. This is because the frog’s skin secretes a mucus that helps keep it moist. Some frogs shed their skin weekly, others as often as every day.
Life cycle of frogs
The life cycle of the frog has many stages. The frog starts out as an egg. It hatches and becomes a tadpole. At about nine weeks of life, tiny legs start to sprout, the head becomes more apparent and the body gets longer. By between 12 to 16 weeks, depending on water and food supply, the frog has completed the full growth cycle.
The biggest frog
The biggest kind of frog is the Goliath frog. Their bodies can reach the size of nearly a foot (30 cm) long, and their legs are that long also. The smallest frog is the Gold Frog. Gold Frogs can measure only 3/8 of an inch (1 centimeter).
Self defense
Frogs have to watch out for all kinds of enemies . There are a wide variety of frog predators. Animals that eat frogs include snakes, lizards, birds, and various small animals like hedgehogs. Even under water frogs can’t be safe from some fish and swimming mammals.
Difference Between Frog and Toad
Frogs and toads are similar in some ways, but they are definitely not the same. People use the words frog and toad as they are same .
Frogs are much leaner in appearance than toads. Frogs and toads don't have the same shape noses. A frog's nose is pointy in shape. A toad's nose is much broader in shape than that of a frog. There is a difference between frog and toad legs length. Frogs have much longer legs than toads.
Frog has a narrow body and waist, but toad has a broader and puffy body. Frogs live on the water. They don't stay in water 100 percent of the time. When they leave the water to go on land. But toads spend most of their time on land, they prefer to stay close to the water. Frogs have moist skin but toads have dry skin. Frogs and toads are not the same color. Frogs skin is much brighter in color than toads. Most frogs have bright green or yellowy-green skin. some have a brownish-green . Toads are dark green or a dull shade of olive green.
Frogs laid in clusters but toads laid eggs in long chains.
Frog tadpoles are slimmer and are gold in color but Toad tadpoles(babies) are chunky and are black in color.
Frogs have longer legs and can jump higher but Toads have shorter legs and can jump, but not as high as frogs.
One of the biggest physical differences between frogs and toads is their skin. While frogs have smooth or slimy skin that is moist, toads have thicker, bumpy skin that is usually dry.
Reproduction
Frogs and toads both breed in the water and lay eggs, which are called spawn. When frogs and toads hatch, their baby animals are called tadpoles. There is a difference in the appearance of toad and frog spawn. Frog spawn forms clumps that tend to stay in clusters. Toad spawn does not clump.
Toads can be found everywhere. All toads are actually frogs. There are more than 300 species of toads. These types of frogs (toads) have stubby bodies with short hind legs for walking instead of hopping. They also have poison glands behind their eyes. frogs and toads can live for between 4 to 15 years. Toads do not have any teeth. Toads on the other hand have tougher skin that doesn’t dry out as fast, so they can live farther from water than most frogs.
